Construct a case for your new iPhone 4 using only the following materials:

– A sheet of heavy weight paper such as a card stock (regular printer paper works too, but the case won’t last as long)
– An exacto knife
– A ruler or straight edge, used for guiding the exacto knife
– Something to score the paper before folding, can be a butter knife, toothpick, metal key, etc
– Adhesive. I used glue-tape, but any adhesive suitable for paper will work. Be sure not to leave any glued areas exposed as this would result in glue marks on your iPhone.
– The case template which can be found here: iPhone Case Template

Step 1: Download and print the template

You can add custom graphics by editing the template in Photoshop or Illustrator.

Step 2: Cut the outline of the case. Do not cut anything other than the outline.

Use the ruler or straight edge to guide the exacto blade. I guess scissors would work too, but it wouldn’t be as efficient or precise.

Step 3: Score the fold lines and make the creases.

Use the ruler or straight edge to guide your scoring tool. When done scoring, make the creases. If this is not done before cutting the inside lines you will have a distorted case.

Step 4: Cut out the inside lines. It is important to do this step after making the creases.

Use the ruler or straight edge to guide the exacto blade, being careful not to slice too far. Scissors would be near impossible to use for this.

Step 5: Fold and glue the top and side flaps, leaving the bottom flap open.

I find it easier to glue the large side flap first then glue the top. I apply glue to the flap then carefully line up the edges before pressing down. Remember not to glue the bottom flap.

Step 6: Insert the iPhone 4 and close the bottom flap.

Insert the iPhone into the case with the headphones jack edge first. You may have to bend the side with the volume buttons a little to get the case to slide in completely. I recommend not gluing the bottom flap so you can remove the case without having to destroy it. Also, gluing the bottom flap could leave adhesive on your iPhone when trying to insert the last tab.

At this point your case is complete and your iPhone is installed! Congratulations. Here is another image of the final product.

Adobe announced at the Mobile World Congress that it’s releasing Flash player 10.1 and Adobe AIR for the Android platform. It also announced recently that BlackBerry would support Flash. Not only will Android be able to view Flash content through it’s browser, Android mobile applications can be created using Adobe AIR. Among the mobile platforms expected to support Flash 10.1 include Research in Motion’s BlackBerry, the Symbian OS, which is used by Nokia and other smartphone makers; Palm’s WebOS and Microsoft’s Windows Mobile. Apple does not support Flash on the iPhone. Adobe has released a beta version of a white paper (http://blogs.adobe.com/flashmobiledocs/2010/02/optimizing_mobile_content.html) created by Thibault Imbert to articulate the process of authoring and optimizing Flash content for mobile platforms. The mobile version of AIR will make it possible for applications running on the platform to take advantage of features within the device’s OS, such as multi-touch, gesture inputs, accelerometer, geo-location and screen orientation. Although this is great for the Flash platform, it is still unsupported on some of the most popular mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, iPod Touch).

With the next iteration of Flash (CS5) developers will be able to build, compile, and submit complete applications for the iPhone, using the Flash code libraries. Included in Flash CS5 are code libraries for smartphone support, multi-touch, accelerometer, screen orientation and RAW microphone access. Support is not just limited to the iPhone, the Palm Pre, Android, and Windows Mobile devices will also be supported. Building iPhone apps through Flash will be similar to building AIR applications. The build of the project will almost be the same except for a few new guidelines to follow, but compiling and testing iPhone apps built in Flash is slightly different. The time spent compiling is longer than average Flash or AIR builds. In order to compile, the developer must have the proper certificates and developer seeds installed. Once compiled, the application will have to be added to iTunes then synced to a device. Adobe is working on a device simulator to mimic the accelerometer and allow GPS testing from the desktop. A public beta for Flash CS5 is promised by the end of the year.

Within Arkham Asylum lies some of the most dangerous, criminally insane villains ever to set foot in Gotham City. It’s littered with artifacts and engravings from former and current inmates. The Victorian and Gothic architecture make every room fascinating and eerie.

The action starts when The Joker seizes control of the asylum, releasing the convicts, kidnapping Commissioner Gordon and the warden. Many of the foes Batman faces are lowly felons directed by The Joker. Although they’re seemingly just low level ubiquitous henchmen, each fight with them is unique. Not only are foes appearances distinct, their behavior varies depending on several factors. The most important element to each battle is the setting. Their strategy is always dictated by the surroundings. If it’s a barricaded room with no exits, they’ll attack directly. If its a multi-tiered complex, they split up to search the different levels. Batman’s advantage is using the shadows and rafters to travel discreetly through rooms without enemies learning he’s there. Any situation can be handled a number of different ways. Some of the most satisfying are using Batman’s stealth to quietly take down assailants. One specific attack involves Batman swooping down inverted, capturing and stringing up an enemy.

Another facet of the game is the tools. Batman is well known for his gadgets and this game is no exception. Whether it be his standard grappling hook, or the Batarang, Batman has something to deal with any situation. The most innovative of these is the Detective Mode. While in use, Batman can detect any living being in the area, whether they can be seen or not. It will detect enemies several floors above or below, and give info on physical and mental status, such as pulse rate and anxiety level. This becomes indispensable while tracking enemies. Any clues left behind can be analyzed to give Batman a trail or find an enemies’ vulnerability.

The graphics for this game are superb. Each character is incredibly detailed, including mundane characters such as guards and henchmen. Batman is physically imposing and well armored. As the game progresses, Batman’s costume takes on lasting battle damage. The art direction for the noted villains is imaginative and disturbing. Some characters have been revised to be even more threatening. For example: Killer Croc has been transformed into a 12 foot tall creature of tooth and fang. The game’s title setting is no exception. Arkham’s corridors are a beautiful labyrinth of tarnished metals and decaying brick and mortar. The level design is complex and engaging, instilling a need to explore every crevasse. The sound design is equally robust, especially the voice acting. Mark Hamill and Kevin Conroy return to their roles from the animated series giving brilliant performances. The control mechanics feel very intuitive and easy to grasp. The combat system is diverse, brutal and efficient. Batman is more than any unarmed assailant can handle, let alone 10 or 15. Using Batman’s weapons and devices is fluid and seamless in transition from battle to exploration.

This is an excellent game and should be considered one of the best games of the year. While the concept isn’t groundbreaking, the execution is remarkable. Every feature is well planned, and often give reference to events in the rich comic history. One thing to consider before purchase is which system to buy the game for. On PS3 there are exclusive levels playable by The Joker. On XBOX360, GameStop has extra content for the Scarecrow. Either way, this is an entertaining game for fans and non fans alike.

1. Print the cut-out. I recommend using some kind of card stock
2. Cut the outside lines, and remove from the rest of the paper. Do not cut anything other than the outside lines.
3. Score the fold lines and make the folds.
4. Cut out the inside lines. It is important to do this after making the folds.
5. Fold and glue the top and side flaps, leaving the bottom flap open.
6. Insert iPhone and fold in bottom flap
